Publish Your Capstone Paper

Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Honor Society
Call for Submissions

Who’s Eligible: Undergraduate students with current LPH membership
Submissions Due: March 27 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time

Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) invites outstanding papers authored by undergraduate students in all areas of communication scholarship. Papers may be co-authored, as long as one co-author is an LPH member. All contributors must be undergraduate students at the time the paper is written. Only completed papers will be considered.

Submitters must include their LPH chapter affiliation. Papers may be submitted by students who have been approved for membership by their college chapter, but have not yet been formally inducted. However, the student must be inducted by the end of the academic year. Top papers submitted by LPH members will be considered for the Stephen A. Smith Awards. Both the top individual paper and the top co-authored papers receive a cash prize. Modest financial assistance may be available for students who present at the conference. Submissions that emphasize this year's conference theme of “Connections” will be given special presentation consideration.

Submission Requirements: Maximum length of papers is 25 double-spaced pages. Papers should include a title and 250-500 word abstract. Both single author and co-authored papers are allowed. Whether sole authored or co-authored, all papers must be the work of undergraduate students at the time they were written. Co-authored papers that include a graduate student or faculty member as one of the authors will not be accepted. All papers must be submitted online, using NCA Submission Central. Microsoft Word files are preferred. Word Perfect and PDF files are acceptable. Compressed or zip files will not be considered.

Scholar to Scholar Consideration: The Scholar to Scholar format allows undergraduate LPH members to present their papers in a highly visible and interactive poster-style format. Wandering scholars (e.g experts in the field) typically engage participants in discussion and provide feedback about their work. If you would like for your paper to be considered for Scholar to Scholar, check the designated box during the online submission process. Audiovisual equipment is not provided in the Scholar to Scholar format.

Removing Identifying Information: To ensure blind review, submitters should remove name, university affiliation, and LPH chapter affiliation from the paper before uploading to Submission Central. Identifying information should only be included on the form you complete prior to uploading your paper.

Reminder about Professional Standards: NCA upholds the highest ethical and professional standards for convention participants. Students are reminded to choose an original topic/method and to submit this work to only one professional conference.

Exciting Opportunity for Communication Student

Communications Manager Position Available

We have an opportunity for a Communication's student. It is a paid position dependent on performance and we hope to fill it ASAP.

Here is a small description.

Communications Manager - Each team is eligible for $5K per semester to fund a student to support the Communications activities on their EcoCAR 2 team.  The EcoCAR 2 Communications Managers will be judged in the following areas: Youth Education, Consumer Campaign, Influencer Campaign, Media Relations, Website/Online Marketing, Social Marketing, Communications Plan, and Reports and Presentations. Communications Managers will be asked to execute additional responsibilities (beyond their team requirements) such as monthly reporting of various accomplishments such as media hits, executed and upcoming events.  Work closely with the Business team Manager to meet team deliverables and goals.

Here is a small description what EcoCAR2 is and of the Business team's responsibilities

EcoCAR 2
, which is a project to design a Plug in Hybrid. It is sponsored by General Motors and the Department of Energy and other companies like Siemens and Blackberry. The project encompasses multiple disciplines, public relations and communications included, and we are looking for highly motivated, highly reliable people to join the Business team.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Outreach events - in which we promote sustainable technologies at local events like the upcoming Alt Vehicle Expo and the Long Beach Grand Prix as well as math, science, and business careers to Middle and High School students
  • Attract media attention
  • Social media campaigns
  • We contact potential local sponsors
  • Write press releases
  • Write Business Plans
  • Write Marketing Plans
  • Write Communication Plans
  • Present to Industry executives during competition
It is a great opportunity to gain marketable experience and compete against some great schools: Ohio State, Purdue, Washington State, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and Penn State. Some estimates suggest that as many as 75% of the people that get truly involved in the project end up with jobs inside the automotive industry. Some of us even get a chance to travel with the team; last year we went to Detroit, Michigan and Austin, Texas for training sessions and preliminary competition. This year the workshops will be in Boston, Massachusetts. The final competition for the first year was held here in Hollywood and we stayed at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel and got media coverage from KTLA (http://youtu.be/84nMlCSVU6k). These events create a rare opportunity for students to interact with and make lasting impressions on high level industry professionals.

Resumes should be emailed to: info@csulaecocar2.com
Thank You,

Abraham Vargas
