Forming Committees

  • Committee forming: if you aren't on the Lambda Pi Eta board, and you are looking to be a big and vital part of our organization, join one of our committees!**
    • Events Planning Committee: we are looking for 1-2 people to work in putting together and executing events such as fund raisers, performance hours, donations, and etc. We are looking to share the work evenly so no one will be more bogged down than another.
    • Treasury Committee: we are looking for 1-2 people to work in keeping up with our finances, our fund raising, and member accounts.
    • Networking Committee: we are looking for 2-3 people to work in upping our member numbers, promotion of our events, writing newsletters, manning the facebook and blog, and keeping the message board by the Communications office current and relevant.
    • Graduation Committee: we are looking for 3-6 people that work together with the entire board and member body to devote their member hours and time to planning and executing the graduation affair for the class of 2012.
    • Committees are great for all class years, but specifically anyone not a senior, and especially if you'd like to be a part of the Lambda Pi Eta legacy after this year is over. It helps you get connected with administration and faculty, as well as your Arts & Letters family. Committee members will be formally recognized at the graduation ceremony along side of the newly elected board members and freshly graduated LPH members.

TUTORING/ETC.

Hey LPH followers,

We want to get a tutoring/reviewing/buddy system in effect for the A&L/TVF students beginning this quarter.

What we are talking about is beginning a "phone/email/IM tree" of sorts that people could securely, and privately, utilize in times of help.

We want to create a network to use when you have writers block; need help reviewing your essays, speeches, performances or projects; an editing team; a helping hand; or extras in your next video!

If you are interested in signing up for this venture, we will be doing it on quarterly basis (based on availability)- please send us your NAME, AVAILABILITY, and WHAT SUBJECT YOU CAN AID WITH.

IE:

Savannah, available anytime by email/evenings and weekends by phone, I can help get ideas flowing, edit, and rework essays, speeches, and etc.

Get it? Yay! Okay!

So please be involved! Let's keep each other strong and help each other out!

We recieved this email from Ana Gomez, one of our two ASI representatives. They are looking for people interested in the ARTS AND LETTERS STUDENT COUNCIL. Please read and pass it on.

Hello everyone,

I am Ana Gomez, one of the two Arts and Letters Representatives, along with Kristine Dickson. Sorry it took me so long to email you about the student council but here I am. Since we are trying to get as many people involved in our student council it is hard to get each persons availability. Here are three dates with different times and just email me back saying which "section" you are most likely to attend. Keep in mind that we are only going to have one meeting date these are just some options.

Wednesday October 14th 11am-12pm or 4:30-5:30pm
Thursday October 15th 10am-11am or 11am-12pm
Monday October 19th 3:30pm-4:30pm

We are also having our Dean's Mixer this upcoming Monday in the Music Courtyard at 3:15. This is a great opportunity to get to know more about the college, meet the Dean and Associate Dean.

One last thing, if you could, please forward this email to anyone who is in Arts and Letters. Let's make all of our events successful.

Thank You,
Ana Gomez

Email to member list

Hello friendly people!

This email is just a reminder about our first meeting for Lambda Pi Eta - Sigma Phi chapter for Fall 2009.

Our first member meeting will be held TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6th at 3:30pm in the Music Building Courtyard (where all the tables with the yellow umbrellas are).

Usually, our meetings will be held THURSDAYS, but since there happens to be a previously planned organizations meeting for this Thursday, we had to move our meeting to Tuesday - FOR THIS WEEK ONLY.

Our meetings are held bi-weekly, so if you cannot make it tomorrow, you can catch up with us again on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22nd at 3:30pm in the Music Building Courtyard. Our meeting will be held same time, same place unless otherwise noted. You will be informed ahead of time of any changes.

Our agenda for tomorrow's meeting will include:
- A complete overview of who we are
- An introduction to the full 2009/2010 board and contact information
- Requirements to join LPH
- Requirements and sign ups to be on Committees and what that will entail
- What kind of events/community work would you be interested in?
- Fees, their variations, and what comes of them.

Tomorrow's meeting will be our first meeting, perhaps redundant but very informational, and only 30 minutes long. Please come... there will also be snacks! ;)

Feel free to pass on this email- the more people the better. Let's make this year great!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

FIRST MEMBER MEETING!

Just wanted to remind all you beautiful faces that the FIRST MEMBER MEETING for LPH will be held TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6th @ 3:30 PM IN THE MUSIC BUILDING COURTYARD (that's where all the yellow umbrellas and tables are between the Music Building and the Theater.)

JUST THIS MEETING will be held on Tuesday- I overlooked a meeting I had to attend on Thursday, our original meeting time.

Please join us for this informational meeting- we will be going over who we are, our mission statement, the requirements to be a part of this organization, our future plans for the 2009/2010 school year, and how YOU fit into it! It's all very exciting stuff- including FREE SNACKS! Who hates free snacks?

So come on down and meet a few of us on the board and let us take 30 minutes of your time.

See you there!

FALL MEETINGS

HELLO ALL!

Thanks for hangin' in there with us! Summer has been a time of getting situated an ready to have an amazing 2009/2010 school year. We have many plans in the making!

We just want to announce to you all that we will have our meetings on THURSDAYS this quarter during the dead hour. We will have a 3:30 start time and try to only go about 30-40 minutes.

We just want to let you know we are doing things a little bit different this year. We will be having segregated board and member meetings- HOWEVER, we will have printed minutes available at member meetings, on the blog (here), and via email. Of course, there will be board members present for each member meeting.

Also, we intend to be very involved through email and Facebook, as it is a major convenience for every student here. We know that Fall is going to be a major struggle for many of us with the somewhat ridiculous and awkward schedules that we all have as a campus whole.

Our first BOARD meeting will be Thursday, October 1st, 2009 at 3:30pm. Minutes will be available on this blog and via email (by request) the same evening.

Our first MEMBER/STUDENT meeting will be Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at 3:30pm in the Music Building Courtyard (think tables with yellow umbrellas). Stop by for the grand beginning to our school year together and partake in some tasty treats! We can't wait to meet everyone!

Remember to add us on Facebook (link in the left hand column) and to tell all your Arts & Letter's friends about us! Let's have an amazing year!

Thanks,
The Lambda Pi Eta 09/10 board.

Welcome! Welcome!

Hello, hello!

Welcome to the blog for Lambda Pi Eta (LPH), Sigma Phi at California State University Los Angeles.

My name is Savannah and I am the Scholastic Officer of the 2009/2010 school year. I will be your humble narrator with insight as to who we are and how you can be a part of it.

What is Lambda Pi Eta?
Lambda Phi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). The Greek letters Lambda Pi Eta represent Aristotle's teachings in his book, Rhetoric. The three ingredients of persuasion are: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) concerning emotion, and Ethos (Eta) which is character and ethics.

Why should I join?
"Our mission is to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies, to stimulate interest in the field of communication, to promote and encourage professional development among communication majors, and to establish and maintain closer relationships and mutual understanding between speech communication studies faculty and students."

How do I join?
Membership is open to all students majoring in Communication Studies. Sigma Phi offers two types to membership: Full and Honorary. Full membership entails you maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 with 90 quarter units completed and 3.25 GPA in communication studies courses with 18 units completed.
