Exciting Opportunity for Communication Student

Communications Manager Position Available

We have an opportunity for a Communication's student. It is a paid position dependent on performance and we hope to fill it ASAP.

Here is a small description.

Communications Manager - Each team is eligible for $5K per semester to fund a student to support the Communications activities on their EcoCAR 2 team.  The EcoCAR 2 Communications Managers will be judged in the following areas: Youth Education, Consumer Campaign, Influencer Campaign, Media Relations, Website/Online Marketing, Social Marketing, Communications Plan, and Reports and Presentations. Communications Managers will be asked to execute additional responsibilities (beyond their team requirements) such as monthly reporting of various accomplishments such as media hits, executed and upcoming events.  Work closely with the Business team Manager to meet team deliverables and goals.

Here is a small description what EcoCAR2 is and of the Business team's responsibilities

EcoCAR 2
, which is a project to design a Plug in Hybrid. It is sponsored by General Motors and the Department of Energy and other companies like Siemens and Blackberry. The project encompasses multiple disciplines, public relations and communications included, and we are looking for highly motivated, highly reliable people to join the Business team.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Outreach events - in which we promote sustainable technologies at local events like the upcoming Alt Vehicle Expo and the Long Beach Grand Prix as well as math, science, and business careers to Middle and High School students
  • Attract media attention
  • Social media campaigns
  • We contact potential local sponsors
  • Write press releases
  • Write Business Plans
  • Write Marketing Plans
  • Write Communication Plans
  • Present to Industry executives during competition
It is a great opportunity to gain marketable experience and compete against some great schools: Ohio State, Purdue, Washington State, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and Penn State. Some estimates suggest that as many as 75% of the people that get truly involved in the project end up with jobs inside the automotive industry. Some of us even get a chance to travel with the team; last year we went to Detroit, Michigan and Austin, Texas for training sessions and preliminary competition. This year the workshops will be in Boston, Massachusetts. The final competition for the first year was held here in Hollywood and we stayed at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel and got media coverage from KTLA (http://youtu.be/84nMlCSVU6k). These events create a rare opportunity for students to interact with and make lasting impressions on high level industry professionals.

Resumes should be emailed to: info@csulaecocar2.com
